Kool Kwest II: Capture the Flag: Da Movie is a comic regarding the rivalry between the Red and Blue teams pitted against each other in a game of Capture the Flag. Captain of the Red Team is Son of Skate Dad and Son, and heading the Blue Team is Lil' Ishmael of SDaS's Kool Kwest. Nations rise and fall, rivalries are broken and formed, and flags may or may not be captured. This title is certainly all you might ask for a childhood game-themed action comic.
Stylistically, Capture the Flag is a return to form, specifically to comics like Willy's Awesome Adventure, where the plot starts off as an incredibly loose game and the entire plot is driven from there. Because of this, the comic is easier to dive right into as a reader and as an author. I wanted to make something that could feel playful and like a vast fantasy world like I used to in years past without worrying too much about the initial details. A lot of the magic of making stories is to start in a comfortable place and just see where your mind takes you, and that's what's been going on while making Capture the Flag and it's tons of fun.
Issue 1
Capture the Flag, issue 1...Act I, settin' it all off...Lil' Ishmael and Son are locked in a battle to get each other's flags, in oppositely facing bases, with their flags flying high. Lil' Ishmael and his absurd crab army are trying to defend their flag while Skate Dad and Son and their army of cartoonish Snorfs battle to get the blue flag, at all costs...
Issue 2
Lil' Ishmael and his absurd crab army are searching for Son and the Red Flag, which are still MIA since the day he escaped the plateau. Meanwhile, in space, the Snorfs argue over the Red Team's next move...
Issue 3
Capture the Flag issue 3 shows the growing rivalry between General and Dr. Snorf and the budding alliance between the Red and Blue Flags. Son, Lil' Ishmael, and General Crabmeister are deep underground in the catacombs of the Green Flag, and have cooked up a plan to bring them down. Meanwhile, something evil in space is a-lurking...
Issue 4
In issue 4 of Capture the Flag, Lil' Ishmael escapes the clutches of the Green Hood, the (obviously) hooded sorcerer at the head of the Green Flag. Meanwhile, General Crabmeister and Son are helped by a Green Flag Guard to escape the clutches of the Snake Turtle who roams the underground lake they are hostage in.
Issue 5
Capture the Flag Issue 5 showcases the ascent of the Blue Flag to Mount Helenos, the mountain above the underground pool housing the Snake Turtle, which our other set of heroes must escape. Meanwhile, the remnants of the Green Flag make their way out of their shattered catacombs, with their whole underground base shaken by the impact of a massive Blue Flag bomb. What lies in those caves is something that they find out in this comic....
